THE POSITION

We are seeking an experienced and creative Senior Manager, Innovation Unit Communications to join our n Department in Vienna (RCV). This exciting and newly created role will focus on driving awareness and visibility of Boehringer Ingelheim’s innovation footprint, focusing in particularly on creating visibility around our R&D activities related to our Vienna-based research site.

The Senior Manager Innovation Unit Communications will also work as primary communication partner to the leaders of our oncology research center in Vienna as well as to our in-house start-ups ViraTherapeutics (Innsbruck, Austria), AMAL Therapeutics (Geneve, Switzerland) and NBE Therapeutics (Basel, Switzerland).

As a trusted and valued partner to all key stakeholders, you will establish and drive Innovation Unit communication in Vienna while playing a key role also globally as embedded partner in the global Innovation Unit communication activities, and a member of the Global Innovation Unit Communications Leadership Team (IUCLT)

Tasks & responsibilities

• Take part in developing the Global IU Communications Strategy and Operational plan on an annual basis, and lead local implementation and delivery in RCV according to agreed global and local KPIs and outcome targets
• Design, plan, deliver and measure impact related to RCV IU and R&D site communications activities and strategic positioning, tailored to the full range of Austrian stakeholder audiences (both scientific and academic communities, as well PGA, media, etc. audiences) in close collaboration with all other functions in the Vienna Corporate Affairs team
• Support and lead on request of Head of Communications & Corporate Brand RCV in crisis communication on R&D and pipeline issues, in line with global BI crisis policies, to mitigate the reputational damage to BI globally
• Drive local implementation of global IU flagship initiatives to position BI as an innovation lighthouse and powerhouse
• Independently drive initiatives and transformation approaches with relevant communications campaigns to ensure alignment and high-level information flow across the RCV R&D organization
• Manage executive and scientific communications for the Vienna IU/site leadership and science thought leaders/ influencers. Preparing local IU leaders for media engagements -in collaboration with RCV Communications colleagues – and develop speeches, presentations and talking points, as necessary. Identify the relevant platforms in Austria for science influencers to engage and support their actual engagement.

Requirements

• University Degree in Sciences and/or PR/Communications/Journalism + 8+ years of science communications experience as part of a broader career in either communications or in a scientific/ R&D environment
• Comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical industry (e.g., clinical research, development and business development and licensing, etc.), including of the German innovation and healthcare ecosystem
• Executive leadership advisory experience and confidence, Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Visionary and forward thinking with the ability to influence and effectively drive organizational change and continuous innovation
• Ability to work in in a global, multicultural environment and ecosystem with a high degree of complexity

The remuneration for this position starts at EUR 75.000,- gross annual salary (full time) [as well as a variable bonus]. When defining the actual salary we are taking your technical skills as well as personal competencies and relevant professional experience into consideration.
